At Raster we like to think we have always been about the art. Therefore we thought it only fitting to try and pay homage to some of the great masters who have come before us and inspired us along the way. To mark the special nature of this chapter each of our members chose an art movement and created their pieces based on the ideals of said movement. From cubism to futurism. You'll be sure to find it here. While this chapter is on a smaller scale than most its certain a case of quality over quantity this time around.

The ever talented Nykolai Aleksander has put an incredible amount of time, work and effort into a fantastic article detailing the basics of painting in Photoshop. Before you pick up that virtual brush make sure to read this article and learn from this man's talent. Not forgetting Austin Cheney's article on hardware for the digital artist which makes for excellent reading and learning! To top all this off we have an interview with some guy called Keith Kennedy. Someone said he works there or something. ;) So, until next chapter. Its all about the art baby.

I for one enjoyed the chapter. I loved mydeadponey's, apocryph's, Bexish's, alchemism's, and dinocats. I don't know if they follow any specific modern art guidelines, but I love the work.

As for the theme itself...absolute blast. I loved doing a bit of research, and found an interest in some new art forms. My work was a reflective of what I'm reading right now, and my own dreams, as well as some of the cubism I found particularly interesting. (mostly Braque) My goal was to show that this was a huge transition for me....to show a bit of my style (the man/woman at the bottom) with some of the look you see in cubism-just as understanding dreams is a transition

I enjoyed the process more than the result...my piece doesn't do much for me, but the process...that's what it's all about. I dug the time spent with the picture. I think a lot of the artists who contributed to this chapter would agree, this one was about freeing up your mind and having a little fun.

And if we did use similar imagery from the masters, which I admit to, then so what....it isn't as if we desecrated their art or scratched their names off their work to put ours on... There's value in imitation, in the form of learning.

great work guys and gals....such a nice batch of work...and KUDOS to Nykolai for that awesome tutorial. also enjoyed your interview Keith!

great chapter!!! i think it was a brilliant theme. wonder how many of the "omg they copied stuff" people have ever been to school for art? my guess is zero. if they had they would realize that part of learning and establishing ones own style is to study and paint in the styles of those referrred to as "the masters". the key here being recreate</> in "the style" of, not "duplicate exactly" an existing piece. the group did a great job of catching the essence and i'll bet learned quite a bit about themselves and their own art in the process. wow go figure - an artr group that still continues to learn and grow with each release.

i love you guys and miss ya ;)

actually, i graduated from an art university...and there is reason and true opinion behind my views. art is art, subjective and at the mercy of the viewer...just remember. granted a few pieces particularly accomplished the tough task that the "chapter" put forth. excuse me for enjoying the talent in raster for their original and extremely eye gratifying art. to each his own noir. and i know you didn't direct the comment towards me, but i felt obliged to state my background in art. i'm not just a simpleton commenting my life away without some bearings in the art world.

Excellent job on on chapter 30 guys. Everyone who participated and worked to put the chapter together should be proud. Like `alchemism said - I'm also very proud to be apart of the group.

Hey- I love cat photos ;) They are most definitely art for me! Art is all a matter of personal taste imo. Just because one person doesnt like it doesnt mean another wont  I personally didnt get the usual strong reaction from this chapter mainly because to me it was more abstract and while I enjoyed Sagen's and Chris Arlidge's work, the rest were interesting and neat to look at but didnt provoke much emotion in me. Again-- thats just my personal reaction- im not saying it wasnt art by any means. I merely am more of an emotion than technical person when it comes to such things =)

hey.. a friendly face in this crowd... these replies have all been interesting to read... ive bit my tongue so many times whilst viewing this news post, that i can't feel it anymore... and there is a warm liquid slowly filling the cavity that is my mouth. :D haha

anyways... "the rest were interesting and neat to look at but didnt provoke much emotion in me" that sums up art for me most times.. im not gonna go around and tell somebody "this is art, and so is this... but that's not" its far too personal (from both sides: creator & viewer). so, if it sparks emotion, then im more than likely gonna consider it art... its that simple.
