At
Raster we like to think we have always been about the art. Therefore we thought it only fitting to try and pay homage to some of the great masters who have come before us and inspired us along the way. To mark the special nature of this chapter each of our members chose an art movement and created their pieces based on the ideals of said movement. From cubism to futurism. You'll be sure to find it here. While this chapter is on a smaller scale than most its certain a case of quality over quantity this time around.
The ever talented Nykolai Aleksander has put an incredible amount of time, work and effort into a fantastic article detailing the basics of painting in Photoshop. Before you pick up that virtual brush make sure to read this article and learn from this man's talent. Not forgetting Austin Cheney's article on hardware for the digital artist which makes for excellent reading and learning! To top all this off we have an interview with some guy called Keith Kennedy. Someone said he works there or something.

So, until next chapter. Its all about the art baby.

As for the theme itself...absolute blast. I loved doing a bit of research, and found an interest in some new art forms. My work was a reflective of what I'm reading right now, and my own dreams, as well as some of the cubism I found particularly interesting. (mostly Braque) My goal was to show that this was a huge transition for me....to show a bit of my style (the man/woman at the bottom) with some of the look you see in cubism-just as understanding dreams is a transition
I enjoyed the process more than the result...my piece doesn't do much for me, but the process...that's what it's all about. I dug the time spent with the picture. I think a lot of the artists who contributed to this chapter would agree, this one was about freeing up your mind and having a little fun.
And if we did use similar imagery from the masters, which I admit to, then so what....it isn't as if we desecrated their art or scratched their names off their work to put ours on... There's value in imitation, in the form of learning.
great work guys and gals....such a nice batch of work...and KUDOS to Nykolai for that awesome tutorial. also enjoyed your interview Keith!

anyways... "the rest were interesting and neat to look at but didnt provoke much emotion in me" that sums up art for me most times.. im not gonna go around and tell somebody "this is art, and so is this... but that's not" its far too personal (from both sides: creator & viewer). so, if it sparks emotion, then im more than likely gonna consider it art... its that simple.
